The Language of Flowers
The use of flowers to represent sentiments or emotions, also called floriography, has been practiced for thousands of years. It gained renewed popularity during the Victorian Era (1873-1901). Many works about the subject were published at this time, including Robert Tyas' "The Language Of Flowers"(1869), which is the source of inspiration for these pendants. "The Language Of Flowers" is one of the many rare works housed in the LuEster T. Mertz Library at The New York Botanical Garden.
